    Summary

    The relationships and interactions that young children have with their teachers in early learning programs matter a lot. Teachers' knowledge about child development and how children learn impacts a child's developmental outcomes. Two of the factors that most strongly predict positive teaching and care giving are education and specialized training.

    Professional Development

    Ongoing professional development gives teachers the opportunity to increase their knowledge of current research and best practices to support children's learning. All administrators, lead and assistant teachers who work in an Early Childhood Education Grant funded program are required to complete 20 hours of Ohio Approved professional development each biennium.


    Step Up To Quality       

    Programs that are awarded the Early Childhood Education Grant must demonstrate they meet high-quality standards by achieving a 3-, 4-, or 5- star rating in Step Up To Quality, Ohio's tiered quality rating and improvement system. Teachers should become familiar with the program standards and work with their administrator to make sure they are being implemented in their classrooms.


    Early Learning Assessment

    All children who are funded through the Early Childhood Education Grant must be assessed using Ohio's Early Learning Assessment. Teachers must obtain required training before using the assessment.
