    Summary

    The RGK Foundation has awarded their final grant of $750,000 to the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service at The University of Texas at Austin's LBJ School of Public Affairs. The foundation is no longer accepting grant applications.

    The board of trustees of RGK Foundation is facilitating the creation of two new family foundations: Kozmetsky Family Foundation and Reissa Foundation, which will receive equal distribution of all assets from the RGK Foundation endowment. The RGK website will share details on these new family foundations as they are finalized.

    Additional Information

    The RGK Foundation awarded grants in the broad areas of:

    Education - programs that focus on formal K-12 education (particularly mathematics, science and reading), teacher development, literacy, and higher education

    Community - programs that focus on human services, community improvement, abuse prevention, and youth development programs; 

    Medicine/Health - programs that promote the health and well-being of children, programs that promote access to health services, and Foundation-initiated programs focusing on ALS.

    Funds were not provided for:

    • Annual funds, galas, or other special-event fundraising activities;
    • Capital campaigns/renovation projects;
    • Debt reduction;
    • Emergency or disaster relief efforts;
    • Dissertation or student research;
    • Indirect/administrative costs;
    • Sectarian religious activities, political lobbying, or legislative activities;
    • Institutions that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation in policy or in practice;
    • Loans, scholarships, fellowships, or grants to individuals;
    • Unsolicited requests for international organizations or programs; or
    • Unsolicited requests for ALS research projects

  • Eligibility Details

    Grants are made only to nonprofit organizations certified as tax exempt under Sections 501(c)(3) or 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code and are classified as "not a private foundation" under Section 509(a). Hospitals, educational institutions, and governmental institutions meeting these requirements are eligible to apply. Organizations that have completed and filed Form 1023 but not yet received an IRS determination letter are not eligible to apply. The Foundation does not make grants or loans to individuals. Although there are no geographic restrictions to the Foundation's grantmaking program, the Foundation no longer accepts unsolicited requests for international agencies or programs.

    Deadline Details

    RGK Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals. All applicants must complete an electronic Letter of Inquiry as the first step. There is no deadline for submitting an electronic Letter of Inquiry.  RGK Foundation will entertain one electronic Letter of Inquiry (LOI) per organization in a twelve-month period.

    Foundation staff reviews electronic Letters of Inquiry on a regular basis, but asks that you allow up to three weeks for a response. The Foundation will send an e-mail message either declining your request or inviting you to submit a formal application packet for further consideration.

    Please allow up to four months for proposals to be reviewed by staff. In some cases, a phone conference or site visit may be scheduled as part of the review process.

    Grants Committee Meeting Dates for 2016 (Only relevant to requests over $100,000): March 4, 2016; June 10, 2016; and September 16, 2016.

    Award Details

    The average grant is $25,000. Grant requests for over $100,000 are reviewed four times each year.
