    Bechtel Group Foundation partners on efforts that: 

    • Promote education, especially in science, technology, engineering, and math
    • Use engineering and construction skills to improve quality of life worldwide
    • Make effective use of the passions and unique skills of Bechtel's people

    Program Areas (4) Bechtel Global Scholar Grants

    • Improving the Pipeline of Engineering and Construction Talent Grants The foundation supports university-level education through scholarship funds and supports business, technical, and engineering programs at universities.
    • Building Positive Relationships Grants The foundation awards grant of up to $5,000 to educational, civic, cultural, and social service programs located in communities that host major Bechtel offices and projects.
    • Matching Gift Grants The foundation matches contributions made by employees and retirees of Bechtel to institutions of higher education on a one-for-one basis from $100 to $1,000 per contributor, per year.
    • Bechtel Global Scholar Grants The foundation awards $3,000 college scholarships to children of employees of Bechtel. The program is administered through Scholarship America
     

    History of Funding

    Over the last 5 years the foundation has awarded 918 grants to 335 organizations totaling $12,739,410.

    During the last 60+ years, the Foundation has made a significant impact on our communities. Among its efforts:

    • Founding the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering
    • Building homes in Chile through Habitat for Humanity
    • Restoring the cable cars in Bechtel's headquarters city of San Francisco
    • Creating Engineers Week to introduce young people to the profession
    • Expanding the Engineering Academy at Oakland Technical High School
    • Funding the Bechtel Initiative for Global Growth and Change at Stanford University
    • Renovating the engineering building at the American University of Beirut
    • Supporting engineering programs at universities in Australia, Canada, China, and the United Kingdom
    • Serving as the title sponsor for Dream Big, a film that educates K-12 students and the general public about the inspiring work that engineers do worldwide
    • Donating $3 million to support COVID-19 relief efforts

    Additional Information

    Giving on a national and international basis in areas of company operations, with emphasis on CA, Washington, DC, MD, MN, PA, and VA. No support for religious organizations. No grants to individuals (except for employee-related scholarships), or for endowments or special projects.
