The Ewing Halsell Foundation
Summary

Mr. and Mrs. Halsell both led privileged lives; however they remained grounded, generous individuals exemplifying values of hard work, strong moral character and social compassion. The Halsells considered their good fortune to be a blessing, not a right. An integral and fulfilling part of that blessing, they felt, was the ability to share it. The basic purpose of the Ewing Halsell Foundation is to help those less fortunate by improving the quality of life for Texans. Although Mr. Halsell set few limitations on the scope of Foundation assistance, focus has been on the frequently overlapping areas of culture, education, the environment and health. These emphases reflect not only the donor’s original interests and philanthropies, but also expansions and variations of those interests, in keeping with changing times and needs that can often be met only through the efforts of private philanthropy.
