    Summary

    The Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation funds organizations in the broad areas of the arts, community development, education, environment, health, human services and religion. While it predominately supports St. Louis area nonprofits, grants are also made to national and international charities. The majority of these grants are granted on the advice of a donor or at the direction of a donors estate through donor advised, field of interest, scholarship or designated funds. The foundation's endowed, unrestricted funds support the foundation's annual Discretionary Grant Program. The foundation administers its Discretionary Grant Program through a periodic series of initiatives related to four areas of interest outlined below. Application guidelines are prepared for each initiative and grant seekers need to apply in accordance with these guidelines. The foundation’s discretionary grant making program is centered on the following areas of interest:

    1. A Multi-Year, Issue-Focused Initiative;
    2. Capacity Building for Nonprofits;
    3. Knowledge Development and Dissemination related to Current Community Issues;
    4. Knowledge Development and Dissemination related to Philanthropy and Volunteerism.
