Traditional higher education programs can be a deterrent to students considering a career in education. Innovative programs that attract future educators are essential to ensuring Indiana maintains the ability to provide all students with high quality teachers. Indiana Department of Education's (IDOE) Grow Your Own: Teacher Residency Pilot Grant application was announced August 28 with the intent to support a pilot that will engage the participating local education agency (LEA) in targeted, strategic recruitment efforts that leverages an innovative pathway into the profession. This grant is being awarded to two LEAs who will engage in a collaborative planning period with IDOE, Region 8 Comprehensive Center, and an Indiana Higher Education Institution's Educator Preparation Program (EPP) to prepare for the pilot implementation.
