    Summary

    The purpose of the program is to solicit applications from eligible Education Providers that will provide funds to enhance the presence of school health professionals in secondary schools throughout Colorado.


    The School Health Professional Grant Program intends to increase the availability of school-based prevention, early intervention, and health care services and programs to reduce the risk of marijuana and other substance use and abuse by secondary school students. This matching grant program exists to help secondary schools:

     

    • Increase the presence of school health professionals in secondary schools to facilitate evidence based prevention education on substance abuse for all secondary students;
    • Provide training and resources for school staff on the implementation of evidence-based programming on substance abuse prevention education for all students who are enrolled in secondary schools; and
    • Allow school health professionals to connect students who are enrolled in secondary schools with services that are provided by community-based organizations for treatment and counseling for students who are at risk for substance abuse.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are Education Providers (on behalf of secondary schools with grades 7-12) and fall into one of the following categories:

    • A school district
    • A Board of Cooperative Services (BOCES)
    • A Charter school authorized by a school district
    • A Charter school authorized by the Charter School Institute

    Deadline Details

    The deadline to submit a Letter of Intent to propose was October 17, 2014.

    The deadline to submit proposals was November 5, 2014. 

    Award Details

    Approximately $2,500,000 is available in total funding for the 2014-2015 school year. Awards will be granted based on the number of added health professionals. Projects will last for one (1) year. Cost sharing/matching of 10% is required. Matches may be both in-kind and cash.
